THE IDEA

The idea of offering our own LÄUFERWEIN has been with us for several years. We have repeatedly postponed this project due to the pandemic and flood disaster. We are therefore all the more pleased that we have now put this idea into practice. We also want to support the reconstruction of the Ahr Valley and remind people that there is still so much to do here. The fantastically beautiful Ahr Valley is just over 30 minutes away from Laufladen Bonn and is therefore a meeting point for many runners, hikers and cyclists from Bonn. The flood of the century in 2021 massively destroyed large parts of the Ahr valley and the reconstruction of this region is still far from complete. There is a lack of craftsmen and the bureaucratic hurdles do not always lead to rapid reconstruction. In addition to the destruction of many homes, most social facilities and sports grounds were also hit by the floods. There are rays of hope thanks to the voluntary and private commitment of local citizens and their partners. One of these is our donation project: the new sports field in Mayschoss. As wine lovers and fans of the Ahr valley, we looked for a local partner who embodies the same quality values as we do and who was open to our idea. We found exactly that partner in the Mayschoss winegrowers’ cooperative. Together, we are now launching two wines on the market in the fall and donating the proceeds from sales to the further expansion of the sports facility. In the coming months, we will continue to organize a number of joint activities with the winegrowers’ cooperative. In addition to a wine tasting at our running store in Bonn, we are also planning a fun run in the Ahr valley and a major trail running event in spring 2024. Stay tuned and check our social networks regularly, where we will announce these events and report on them. Would you like to find out more about the Ahr Valley and the reconstruction? Our aid project: JUMA - STADION MAYSCHOSS

Movement again at last! Finally playing again! Finally outside again! A small dream will come true for children and young people in the local community of Mayschoss in July 2023. A new outdoor sports area will be opened on the Ahr-Rotweinstraße near the Mayschoss winegrowers’ cooperative, where they will finally be able to play basketball and soccer again. There is also a skate park. The initiative for the sports area came from the children and young people of Mayschoss themselves. Our contact person Annelies Baltes, head of the youth club, took on the project with great commitment and found many private supporters, including several aid organizations, who backed the idea. Nevertheless, there is still a funding gap of over €30,000. Of course, new play equipment and jerseys for the youth groups are also needed. A major challenge for such a private project. Incidentally, the name “JUMA Stadium Mayschoß” is based on this – because it benefits the youth in Mayschoß. We think this project is great and want to get involved! If you are as passionate about it as we are and don’t just want to drink runner’s wine, get in touch with us. We will be happy to put you in touch.

OUR PARTNER: THE MAYSCHOSS WINEGROWERS' COOPERATIVE

The Mayschoss Winegrowers’ Association was founded in 1868. The 18 members of the cooperative at the beginning quickly grew over time. Today, over 460 winegrowers are organized in the cooperative. Being the oldest winegrowers’ cooperative in the world is not a special achievement, but the path taken to get there and the successes of the past 150 years are. Since 1868, the cooperative has defied every crisis and always found the right “wine concept” for the respective era. The winegrowers’ cooperative is now one of the best of its kind in the world, not only because of its age, but especially because of the top quality of its wines. Mayschoss is very proud of this achievement. In 2020 and 2021, the winegrowers’ cooperative faced major operational challenges and restructuring due to the coronavirus pandemic. New ideas and concepts were needed. Many events were held digitally and are still established today. On July 14/15, 2021, the winegrowers’ cooperative was hit hard by the devastating flood disaster on the Ahr. The sites in Mayschoss, Altenahr and Walporzheim were severely affected with a level of destruction that had never been seen before, and around 10% of the cooperative’s total vineyard area also fell victim to the flood. The reconstruction of the cooperative is now in full swing. Much has already been achieved, but the major projects will certainly take some time. True to the motto “What one person can’t do alone, many can”, the 460 or so members now want to pull together with the other winegrowers of the Ahr Valley and countless helpers to make the Ahr Valley what it once was.
